El Angel is a small coffee plot that is on top of a mountain that is 1,550 meters high. El Angel has been family-owned for 25 years. The farm is currently run by Carlos and Gerardo Mendez who are the second generation to work the farm. Carlos and Gerardo have had multiple Cup of Excellence winning coffees, every year they have coffees that are put forward as they consistently produce high scoring coffees which is a credit to the work they and their team put in.

We are really proud that this is the first coffee that we have been able to source directly from the farmers themselves. Our head roaster Dom visited this farm in February this year and was able to see first-hand the care and effort they put in to each coffee. We have long known about the hard work that goes in to producing such good coffee but seeing it first hand gives us a whole new level of appreciation for what Carlos, Gerardo and all of their team do.

We love this coffee as a really funky and interesting espresso. Because of the rich fruity notes it does work well as a filter coffee too but we’re really enjoying it in a flat white or long black, especially if you’ve been drinking washed coffees for a while and want a bit more of a kick!

Ooh, it gets dark, it gets lonely
On the other side from you
I pine a lot, I find the lot
Falls through without you
I’m coming back love, cruel Heathcliff
My one dream, my only master
